Review: Warrior Prayers

Moms of boys… warriors, caped-crusaders, knights in training… are there holes in the knees of your favorite jeans? How many nights have you knelt by your son’s bed, covers drawn about his chin… and closed your own eyes wondering how? How do I raise up this little warrior into a man? A man of honor, virtue, valor? How do I raise up a man of God in a world so ungodlike?

You don’t. Not on your own. Co-creator and Founder of the M.O.B. Society, Brooke McGlothlin, reminds us in her e-book, Warrior Prayers, that we aren’t meant to know all of the answers… but to call out to the One who does.
“I don’t pray because I have all the answers. I pray because I don’t.”
Warrior Prayers calls moms of boys to pray intentionally for this next generation of men. Yet sometimes it is difficult to know what to pray specifically… especially when fatigue and disillusion cloud our thoughts. While I have initially enjoyed reading Warrior Prayers as a powerful motivator to be diligent in prayer for my little men, I will likely find myself returning to these pages time and again for quick Scripture references by topic.
“And I certainly have no idea how to raise warriors, protectors, worshippers, peacemakers and friends by myself. But I do know how to get down on my knees and cry out to God on their behalf.”
Brooke has addressed areas including: integrity, characteristics of “men set apart”, fruit of the Spirit, anger, salvation, heart change, honesty and humility. Along with an illustrative introductory discussion of each focus and a sample prayer, you will find a full page of Scripture springboards.
Are you praying for your son to be a man of honor? “May ____________ know that both riches and honor come from God, and that He rules over all (1 Chronicles 29:12)” Is your son wrestling with a prideful heart? “May ___________ not have a haughty spirit, for pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall (Proverbs 16:18).”
As I print these pages for prayerful moments with my own boys, I am adding blank sheets behind each page of Scripture references on which to add our own treasured verses whispered from this mama-heart. To illustrate the reality of God’s powerful work in their lives, I plan to also journal offerings of praise as we watch Him shape their hearts and actions. We can boldly anticipate God’s answers and joyfully prepare to witness His hand in the lives of our sons when we pray Warrior Prayers!
“For You know the plans You have for them: plans to prosper them and not to harm them, to give them a future and a hope.”
